Evaluation- Reaching out to target audience

Researching out to target audiences

After finishing our psychological thriller, it was extremely important for our group to reach out to our target audiences. This is important because with out following this process, we could not have seen what the viewers thought regarding our thriller. Audience feedback is crucial during the filming process because without receiving target audience feedback, we as the film producers would be unsuccessful in promoting our psychological thriller. The main reason media companies produce target audiences is because this ensures a higher prophet rate during release. If we released our video into the world of media, with out firstly receiving feed back, our thriller could be inappropriate for our target audience; and therefore fail in the media industry.

We decided that in order to receive target audience feedback, we would release our two minute thriller introduction onto a social networking site; facebook. Facebook has over millions of users and therefore we could receive a lot of feed backs regarding the quality and effects that our thriller had on the audience. Facebook is a worldwide used networking site, and this overly meant that we could receive feedback from all types of different people (e.g different genders, races, ethical backgrounds, ages, cultures). This is a positive decision that we made because is means that we are ensuring a full coverage of our target audience. If we were only to address one race for example, this could mean that one viewpoint is help throughout. However, by addressing all different races, this meant that we could have a range of different responses; negative and positive.

I chose to put a link up on my facebook page, which as shown (left) allowed the audience to watch and comment on our psychological thriller; based around their individual viewpoints. Whilst making a survey monkey questionnaire for our viewers to complete, we also allowed them to express their opinions, without being asked specific questions. This is an important form of feedback because it means the audience can respond regarding their viewpoints, without having to answer in a specific way. I posted our video through the use of youtube, so all the viewers had to do was click on the link i posted on facebook; and then they were able to view our psychological thriller.

The image on the right shows a range of different people that liked our psychological thriller. As well as the audience commenting on our thriller, they also had the opportunity to like it. This is important because people can express their views regarding our film, through this form. By liking our film, this allows us to see that our target audience approves of the ideas and conventions that we have reintroduces through our introduction. This also allows our group to recognise that the work we have produced, would most likely be successful in the media industry; due to the amount of support it received. The picture further shows that we have addressed all forms of our target audiences, as they are all from different backgrounds, ages, genders, etc. This is important for the overall feedback process.

Finally, this image shows a range of different feedback's that we received from our target audiences. Our overall feedback was very positive, which we were extremely happy about because one of our main goals was to address our target audiences effectively. Some responses that we found highly important were those such as Connor's and Collins'. We found these feedback's overly helpful because they really did give us a wide overview of the thoughts concerning our psychological thriller. These feedback's allowed us to recognise the audiences favourite moments, and therefore we could possibly add more emphasis on these clips; on a later basis. As shown from the picture on the left, facebook did really help us to address all of our target audience; as we hoped. Not all of the people that commented are local to our area, and therefore we were really able to get a large range of ideas from a wide amount of parties. With out the use of facebook, I think it would have been extremely hard to address our target audience as effectively.

Overall, I think that researching out to target audience through the use of facebook has been extremely helpful. Facebook has allowed our group to recognise that our chosen target audience is actually quite accurate, and they are very happy with the outcome; regarding the effect our thriller had on them. The use of target audience feedback has allowed us as a group to analyse our work from a different viewpoint, that is not biased, and to think about alterations we could possibly correct; in order to make our thriller fit the target audience more accurately. We are extremely happy with the feedback we have received and the opportunities it has provided us with, regarding the improvements of our work.
