Construction- Reflection- Editing

Reflection- Editing our two minute introduction
During the process of beginning our editing, we have used a software named premier, which has allowed us to make the adaptations that we wanted to do to our two minute introduction. In this blog post I am going to explain the different images and how the editing software has helped us to make our individual clips more effective and successful.

As you can see, displayed on the left, is an image of our clips being played in the premier editing section. To begin with, all of our clips were very long and therefore this software ensured that we could edit them to make them the length that we required. Premier also allowed us to view the clips on the left hand side (of the image), so that we could ensure that they were decent and good to use in our introducing scenes. There are a significant amount of tools, such as crop, and loads of effects, like brightness, that allowed us to edit out introduction to the best of our capacity. Through using this software, we have really been able to turn our clips into a real psychological thriller, and we are happy with the outcome.
To the right is an image showing one of the effects that we added to our introduction. In our psychological thriller, we had a flashback scene and therefore we wanted to make the scene appear as being black and white so that this was apparent to the viewers that it was in the past. During the editing process we was able to add a black and white effect through a dragging tool, which allowed the colour to be removed. We could decreased/increase on how black and white the image was, and we are very happy with the final outcome and effect that the black and white scene has created.
In addition, on the left is a picture of our zooming in clip, which we were able to edit during the editing process. Whilst filming this scene, the zoom in was very slow and therefore we was able to increase it's speed through using premier. By the software enabling us to slow down/speed up our clips, we were able to add to the overall effectiveness of our scenes. the editing process also allowed us to expand clips, such as this one, so that we could scroll along and closely see what the viewers were perceiving.
Moreover, the image on the right shows another of the many scenes for our introduction. In this clip, it was important that the sound of the phone was really emphasised, so that the viewers could see what was going on and why Jane (Shannon) was not picking up her phone. During filming, although the sound of the phone was very apparent, we wanted to make sure that the viewers received the full emphasis of this scene. During editing we were able to change the scale as to how loud the phone would be heard. We managed to edit this clip so that the sound of the phone was very awaking and alarming, and we are very happy with how the audience is going to view this scene, because of the editing resources that were available to us.
Furthermore, the picture of the left shows a contradicting viewpoint to the image above. During the editing process, in some clips you could hear the camera and noises in the background, that we were not happy with. However, we were able to overcome this problem by using premier to edit the sound out. This was important because there was some scenes that we wanted to be quite because this would in turn create tense emotions for the audience. We also wanted to add sound effects to some tense scenes and in order to do this we needed to illuminate background sound, so that it didn't correspond with the music we chose. Premier also allowed us to experiment with this closing scene, and edit the time spans between each clip, which would overly effect our final outcome.
Finally, the image on the right shows the editing process of our park scene. When we first filmed this clip there was a lot of continuity problems as it took a significant amount of time to get this clip accurate and effective. In order to film this clip, a lot of time was take perfecting the different angles and therefore it got dark very quickly. During the editing process we realised that there was a lot of lighting issues between scenes that were suppose to occur within minutes of each other. We overcame this problem by using premier to edit the brightness and contrast of this clip to make it correspond with previous park scene clips. As a group we were very happy with the results that we were able to
achieve, because of the software's that were
available to us.

We are hoping to carry on making edits to our two minute thriller introduction, until we are all satisfied that the result are those to the best of our ability. Premier has provided us with many opportunities to improve our psychological thriller and we are very happy with the outcome so far.
